R5C with USB 5G modem - device disconnects

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

Hi,

I experience usb 5G modem disconnects. Looks like usb port power issue, but I would like to confirm if there is any solution.

    USB3 modem: 05c6:9063 Tri Cascade Inc. VOS_5G
    R5C with FirendlyWRT 23.05.2 (r23630-842932a63d) kernel 6.1.25
Power supply: original Lenovo type-c 65W

When doing speed test, it reaches ~ 200mbit/s for 3-5 seconds and then modem is restarted. System logs usb device disconnect.

When doing the same test plugged directly into Macbook M2 or Lenovo X1 - all works good. Speed test runs at maximum speed of 200 mbit/s and the device does not restart.

Does that mean that R5C is not capable to provide enough power to USB3 port?
Any hints?

Thanks
I was getting random disconnects of my external SSD.

I got a powered USB hub that can power the NanoPi and its devices.

The power adapter is 12V, 5A, 60W.
The 7 x USB-A 3.0 ports support BC 1.2 protocol (USB Battery Charging Specification Revision 1.2), that's 5V, 1.5A, 7.5W per port.
The NanoPi (mine's R5S) USB 3.0 ports are 5V, 0.9A, 4.5W.

I also replaced the SSD's USB cable with a higher quality one. It solved my problems.

It also has come in handy, as I've got a few extra USB device plugged in now too. Bluetooth and Zigbee.
